EUPHEMISM AND DYSPHEMISM

EUPHEMISMS: Those are used to say something in  better words. It means the use of a mildor vague expression as a substitude for blunt precision.

some examples:

• Going to the other side: Death
• Come together: Sexual act.
• To pass away: To die.
• Confort woman: Prostitute.
• Between jobs: Unemployed.
• Differently-abled: Disabled
• Fell off the back of a truck: Stolen.
• Letting someone go: Firing someone.
• Put to sleep: Euthanize.
• Pregnancy termination: Abortion
• on the streets: Homeless
• Big- Boned: Heavy, Overweight 
• Sanitation Engineer: Garbage man
• Economical with truth: liar.
• Chronologically-challenged: Late.

DYSPHEMISMS: They are the use of harsh, more offensive word instead of considered less harsh.

• Cancer stick: Cigarette.
• Egg head: Genius.
• Pig: Policeman
• Batting for the other side: Homosexual.
• Bit the big one: To die.
• hide the sausage: Sex
• worm food: Dead.
• Bullshit: Lies
• Snail mail:Postal mail.

I had not noticed that we have some of them even in Spanish. Thus it's so important to understand and to learn different expressions which are used in the street. It means there is a set of ways to express and idea.
